The most common question people (friends & even customers) have always come up & asked me about 1Borneo is WHY the ceramic floor tiles are "cracking" everywhere & carpets are laid over to cover up the missing tiles. Obviously they wanted information from someone who might have first hand knowledge & since they know I work in the mall, I end up being the target for their answers. I also recall reading an article in Daily Express' Hotline page where someone was complaining about the building showing signs of cracks on walls/pillars & questioned whether structural integrity of the mall was at risk. What the findings were, THAT I don't remember... :P
After Googling the internet, I stumbled upon these 3 sites which are self-explanatory :
Therefore, the MAIN conclusion here are :
- Loss/lack of adhesion between the tiles and the floor due to the dramatic change of temperature causing thermal expansion (on/off effect of air-conditioning on daily basis).
- Surface preparation/cement application was where the mistake was first made as tiling skills of workers were inconsistant to industry standards.
In other words, the WORKMANSHIP of the sub-contractors at that time are to blame. It has nothing to do with "building integrity" theories, nothing to do with "movement of the building due to the ongoing construction of the apartment block" bullshit.
